13 September 2025SHAR CRICHTON OBITUARY

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Shar, our Vice President, past Chair Person and much loved committee colleague. 

Shar was born in Baghdad and came to Britain as a child when her father, who was an Iraqi diplomat, was posted to London. As a result most of her schooling was in England and although she returned to Baghdad for a year in her late teens she decided to return to England to study Biological Sciences at Reading University. She was fluent in Arabic, Turkish and English.

She began breeding Persian cats in 1980 and aquired her prefix Mabrook in 1981.She started showing in the early 1980s and was particularly fond of her self black Persian, GrCh Eldarby Peter Pan She frequently put him on exhibition. She showed her Persians extensively both in Scotland and England. In the mid-1990s she became a full judge of Persians and later went on to become a Full or Full judge (Provisional) of all the breeds in Section 2.

 In 1987 she joined the committee of the Nor’East of Scotland Cat Club later acting as Show Manager and then Chairman. Recently she became a Vice-President of the Nor’East of Scotland Cat Club. She will be sadly missed by all those involved with the club as well as the wider Cat Fancy

Shar's funeral will take place on Monday, September 22nd at 1.30pm at the Aberdeen Crematorium Hazelhead, East Chapel (AB15 8PT).
